According to danish TV2, Contador has finally decided to leave Astana, and that he will take a week of and then decide which team he will join next year. It seems more and more like a reality that our "new" team will be danish/spanish!

To be honest, I really don't want him here. It feels like Riis would throw the team's history away by getting Contador

| I feel I have to go with Schlecks.. There were only 2 cyclist that I never would like to have in this team and one of them retired again in past days.. Sadly it looks that this other guy will go to Riis' team.. |

If he comes to our team I'm gonna have some very hard races to follow. Gonna root for all other guys in our team, especially the danes, and then for someone in an other team for the gc. That going to be weird

Bwah, I don't know. I'll support the team, and trust Riis' judgment in riders. I actually think Contador handled himself reasonably well this year, even with the whole chain incident, and I've always wanted more Spanish riders on this team.
Lets see what happens, but as many has mentioned elsewhere, if Riis can have a team with the arguably best classics rider (Cancellara) and arguably the best GC rider (Contador) - then thats pretty well done, and something that should be applauded

Well nothing except Contador leaving Astana is certain yet... I'm torn, but you have to look at the whole situation... as we know it. N.B. This is all speculation based on rumour and news speculation.
We needed a sponsor. or risk closing down?
Andy and Frank have one but chose to use it for there own team?
Contador has one and can bring it to Riis?
SunGard's sponsorship increase was conditional on a co-sponsor?
Without a sponsor there would be no Team Riis as we know it?
I'm most annoyed by the silence and non committal of the Schlecks tbh. If it dose eventually turn out that they lined up a sponsor and chose to leave... I would of course prefer them to stay with Riis, bring in a sponsor and strengthen the team.
The second choice of continuing without a GC might not be possible either, we don't know what the rider demands were and if they had higher demands than the reality of the budget. |

I'm with Culkasi. I think a lot of people are angry at Contador still for Chaingate. But think of the success we could have as a team. While I think many of us like the Schlecks and want to see them do well, it seems certain that they are leaving. Since they would no longer be a part of this team, we'd have to find someone who could compete against them on a GC-level. Signing Contador would do that.
My concern is that that CN article said: quote: As part of the deal, Spanish riders Benjamin Noval, Daniel Navarro, David De La Fuente and Jesus Hernandez expected to join Contador at Riis' team.
If that's the case, we're picking up 4 riders who would be helpers in the mountains of the Tour, but I'm not sure what other advantage they'd be. And that would probably mean 4 of our riders would be leaving for sure....

If Riis has pulled it off, you can hardly blame him. As much as I like Andy and Frank, the way they have behaved in the last 6 months with regard to the sneaky way the new Lux team has been organised, there is no surprise Riis has gone out and signed the best rider out there as a replacement.
People seem to have short memories..........why should he sign someone inferior just to suit the fans?. No-one remebers 2nd place !!

I could perhaps learn to tolerate Contador on the team, but I cannot stand the thought of having his merry band of chemichal brothers on our tour team. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but to parafrase myself from another post "DE LA FUENTE WTF???"
If he really is bringing in four guys, then we would get one dane max on the tour team as I see it. |

Amen Paul !!
And a little Question for the people who believes that the Schlecks are better Sportsmens than Alberto.
Why is that??
They all 3 been connected to Fuentes, and probably all three are doped. It is certainly naive to believe Contador would be the only one, Andy was the only one this year to follow him in the mountains.
The Chain thing pissed me off, but when i sad and thought about it, Andy Exploited also a contador defect on the cobblestone stage, so dont try to to raise Andy over other riders, for he is not that morally better than Contador at that point.
When That said, I am also worried that too many of Riis's longstanding riders, will leave the team. They are like Riis heart and soul a part of the team that Riis has built up over the last many years, and if we lose many of them, so losing team also some of what makes it great.
But let us now see, there is no reason to take sorrows in advance:)

Apart from Navarro, and maybe Hernandez and De La Fuente, the other riders he could bring would be useless i think, we already have better riders than Noval, Jufre...
We need at least 2 danish riders in the Tour team. Next year Tour team : Contador, Navarro, Hernandez, De La Fuente, Cancellara, Larsson, Voigt, C.A. Sorensen, N. Sorensen (Subs : Lund, Porte).
I don't like Contador but of course he would (will) be a very strong signing. I'll still support the team if Fabian and Jens stay, and if we keep/sign some danish riders. I will also support the new Lux team. |

Plenty of room for Contadors Spanish helpers - with Schlecks and presumably Fulgsang leaving, O'Grady also rumored, theres plenty of room - the roster for 2010 is only 25 riders

If Contador has formally rejected an Astana offer and CDE still has no new sponsor for next year, where else can Contador go but to Riis?
Most of the other PT teams seem content with their current respective GC men. The only questionable one is Radio Shack and I don't think Contador wants to try JB/LA again.
He is going to get the biggest salary ever offered to a cyclist, so whatever team it is better have a huge budget.
If Riis other sponsor turns out to be Specialized, it seems like they have made a clear decision as to who the top GC rider is? Makes you wonder what bike sponsor Team Lux will line up.

What about Sky? They have a big budget and Wiggins didn't do very well in the tour.
