Will we really have money for both Cancellare and Contador (inc. helpers. Hopefully only Navarro.).

Where is KD and his sums when you need it.

Google translation:

Bjarne Riis will still not comment on whether Alberto Contador is on its way to the Danish crew, although several media linking the Spanish rider to the team.

Bjarne Riis continuing to study the possibilities of the coming season. Therefore he will not comment on recent reports that Alberto Contador should be on your way to the team.

"There is a sentiment whipped up, and I can also understand," he Sporten.dk. "But I will not comment on anything, and there is nothing else to say than that we are looking at our options now and collect the pieces there are."

Some of the Danish team owner to deal with is that a contract with the triple Tour de France winner is a package deal in which several other Spanish riders included, as are masseurs and mechanics can be a part of the agreement.

Bjarne Riis' former sporting director Alex Pedersen also estimated that the Danish team owner may be in doubt about whether they fit together.

"I find it hard to see that Contador and Bjarne fit together. Purely mental acts they just not going to be a good match, "says Alex Petersen, who nevertheless acknowledges that it may be difficult to refuse, if Specialized is offering a triple Tour winner with a bag of money that can ensure team's future.

I'll remember Alex Petersen's comment from that article, it's what I think too, he just doesn't fit in this team.

Sure.. But as he says. If the best stagerace -rider is available with a big bag of money, then how are you going to say no?

Acording to an article from Politiken, Riis says that there are other possibilities that Contador, which might suggest that his intrest in Contador isn't because of a sponsor (specialized) but because Contador is simply the best Tour-rider right now.

Will be interesting to see. The second sponsor will be a big clue.

Velonation says Contador could join Garmin (What an irony!). They also remember what Formula One champion Fernando Alonso once said about starting an own cycling team whith his friend Contador... It's silly season again.

Let me get this straight. The worlds best cyclist may be joining the team and the overall attitude in this forum is disappointment? Man you guys are hard to satisfy...

While I think many of us like the Schlecks and want to see them do well, it seems certain that they are leaving. Since they would no longer be a part of this team, we'd have to find someone who could compete against them on a GC-level. Signing Contador would do that.

My concern is that that CN article said:
quote:
As part of the deal, Spanish riders Benjamin Noval, Daniel Navarro, David De La Fuente and Jesus Hernandez expected to join Contador at Riis' team.

If that's the case, we're picking up 4 riders who would be helpers in the mountains of the Tour, but I'm not sure what other advantage they'd be. And that would probably mean 4 of our riders would be leaving for sure....

Contador already has done more than needed to rectify the chain incident, what really worries me is the potential danger of the changes which will follow him.
Will fundamental principals like riding for the best man on the day continue to exist? Will we still get to see Riis' crazy tactics? Will English still be the main language? Will the team waste energy on Fabian's yellow jersey? Will the army like training camps continue to exist? And so on.

There's little to no doubt that the team will win everything there is worth winning, but with such fundamental changes it might also become a different team, which I'll have to learn to love from scratch.

At least we'll get a ton of things to debate. :D

I wouldn't say "overall"... I would say reactions are split.

Personally I'll side with Riis, but what gets me is that the whole situation including Andy and Frank is still speculation.

What I don't want is any more issues regarding doping, so I'm hoping what ever happens we will have lots of clean and exciting times ahead.

Bjarne has delivered so far so I don't see any reason why that should change in the future... We don't know the reasoning inside the team, and afaik the team has a huge say in who stays and goes?

I do hope we are able to increase the roster so that next time Jens says "I could win that" he has the riders to go and do it...

Who thinks that we will get back to 30 riders again?

I don't think the team has ever been on 30 riders? Head somewhere that Riis thinks that 28 are the best number, because it makes sure that all the riders have enough to do over a whole season.

But more riders would probably be nice for the team.

I think the curent rules still let a Protour team go to 30 riders, but some still need to be neopros.
